Osmo

Natural Interiors With Osmo

Wooden flooring remains both a stylish and practical solution for modern interiors, but requires a protective finish. Osmo UK, the eco-friendly wood experts, provide a sustainable finish specifically formulated to combine perfect protection and creative design.

One of the most attractive qualities of choosing wood for interior application is its unique and rustic appearance, making it essential to specify a finish that will not detract from this. Osmo's Polyx-Oil wood finish is designed to accentuate the natural beauty of timber, retaining its organic appearance, while adding comprehensive protection from within.

There is an on-going trend for the use of natural materials in interior design, which makes it essential that the correct maintenance and protection procedures are followed to ensure longevity,” explains Steve Grimwood, Osmo UK's Managing Director. “As wood is a versatile, warm, refined material, it is important to ensure that any finish specified is of the highest quality and full of natural ingredients. Our Polyx-Oil product is the ideal wood accompaniment, enhancing the material's living characteristics without inhibiting any of its natural properties.”

With fashions and tastes continually changing, Osmo has also developed Polyx-Oil Tints which adds colour to the original Polyx-Oil line-up. With such a finish, it is possible to embrace almost any style, allowing you to adapt the wood to match the varying and changing requirements. This further adds to the eco-friendly, natural approach, as it allows you to transform pre-existing timber fixtures to reflect an alternative design trend. It also complements the wood's ability to last a lifetime by providing a solution to refurbish and maintain wood for many years to come.

While some installations require an as-natural appearance as possible, Polyx-Oil Tints Raw enhances the wood's appearance, while adding to its durability. Polyx-Oil is full of natural ingredients that replenish any loss from the wood, allowing it to remain elastic and promoting breathability. Ensuring the wood's appearance shines through, Polyx-Oil adds resilience against stains, dirt and moisture. By seeping into the woods surface, the finish will not crack, peel or blister.

Alumasc

Harmer SML chosen for M&S Flagship Store

Alumasc's Harmer SML cast iron soil and waste system has been installed at the new M&S flagship store at Cheshire Oaks Designer Shopping Outlet in Ellesmere Port.

Packed full of eco-credentials, Cheshire Oaks is the second largest M&S store in the world measuring in at over 148,000 square feet spanning 2 floors. It was created using a number of low carbon technologies, addressing several different areas of sustainability and helping the project achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent' rating.

The Harmer SML system forms part of a carefully considered rainwater management strategy that also includes an 80,000 litre rainwater management tank and sustainable urban drainage (SUDS). SML is a lightweight cast-iron system which is 100% recyclable, making it the ideal choice for the scheme, in which all of the materials used where either natural, or recycled.

Advances in cast iron technology have ensured that Harmer SML products are fully attuned to modern construction needs. SML systems meet the new UK requirement for CE Marking and Alumasc have recently introduced new ductile iron brackets which speed up the installation process.

Manufactured in Germany to meet the highest quality and performance standards, Harmer SML also carries British Board Agrement Certification, 05/4191. The pipes and fittings meet the European Standard BS EN 877, further assured by the new CE Marking, showing full compliance with EU manufacturing, testing and technical performance requirements.

The new ductile iron brackets provide continuity of material across the all-iron system and can be used for vertical and horizontal rainwater stacks without the need for pipe stack supports - saving costs for both the contractor and end user. The brackets are also manufactured in accordance with BS EN 877.

Detailed information about the SML range can be found in a comprehensive new 72 page brochure that also includes an invaluable specification guide. And as a further aide, Designers can also download Alumasc's exclusive Drainage Design Calculator App which is available for PC and ipad.

Hunter Douglas

Inspiration and imagination fires Hunter Douglas at new college

The landmark Newcastle Sixth Form College, designed by RMJM, is not only providing a state-of-the-art education facility but also makes a bold and impressive design statement.

Hunter Douglas worked with contractor BAM and ceiling contractor Brebur Ltd to provide stretch Metal LS8 1200mmx600mm tiles in white and grey were specified along with linear lighting. The fine arts studio presented a particular challenge due to the sloping ceiling details but Hunter Douglas has a long track record of creating bespoke systems. The Newcastle project also required the ceilings to conceal services and provide acoustic control, as well as offer an aesthetic value and long-term solution.

Hörmann

NEW HORMANN THERMOPRO PLUS

The new Hörmann ThermoPro Plus entrance doors offer even better insulation values while maintaining the high levels of security, ease of use and quality for which the unique steel faced ThermoPro doors are renowned.

The new door features a 65mm thick steel door leaf mounted on a composite frame. This frame adds to the insulation value since it offers a better thermal break and the thicker door is filled with rigid CFC free PU foam for both strength and insulation.

Not only does the door leaf contribute to enhanced insulation but the 80mm aluminium door frame also has PU foam infill and a thermal break. Triple seals on the threshold strip and another thermal break all help to maximise insulation to give a fitted door with a thermal u value as low as 1.0W/m2K.

PermaRock

PermaRock lead the way with Green Deal compliant external wall insulation

With the on-going uncertainty surrounding the Government’s new flagship energy efficiency initiative, the Green Deal – due for launch in October 2012, it is good to hear that at least one company is geared up and ready to supply fully compliant external (solid) wall insulation systems, a key measure under the Green Deal and the Energy Company Obligation (ECO).

PermaRock, one of the UK’s longest established and leading external wall insulation system suppliers, has continued to focus investment to ensure that all their key external wall insulation systems are fully Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO) compliant and meet all the requirements set out in the Draft Code of Practice.

This investment has led to the recent award and publication of a new certificate (No. 158/12) by UKAS accredited body the Building Research Establishment (BRE).

BRE Certificate No. 158/12 reflects PermaRock’s constant commitment to the quality of it’s lead products and expands on their previous scope of accredited external wall insulation and render systems, placing PermaRock in a strong position to supply external (solid) wall insulation systems under Green Deal and ECO.

The certificate provides accreditation for mineral fibre, phenolic, EPS and EPS-premium (Grey) based external wall insulation systems with acrylic and silicone-based through-coloured renders, traditional dashing stone, brick effect render, brick slips and lime-based render decorative finishes.

Under the requirements set out under the Green Deal, Green Deal Providers and Installers will only be able to install products and systems as defined within the scope of their certification. In the case of external wall insulation, ETA or UKAS certificated systems can be installed only onto the wall construction types for which they are accredited. They must also comply with all applicable European and Domestic legislation relevant to the testing, performance, and quality of the system.

For PermaRock, BRE Certificate 158/12, permits installation of their key external wall insulation systems onto nearly all traditional and non-traditional substrate types, including, masonry (brick / block), dense and no-fines concrete (PRC) and sheathed light gauge steel frame and timber frame constructions.

If you would like further information on PermaRock’s latest accreditation or would like to discuss how they can work with you under Green Deal and ECO then contact PermaRock on (T) 01509 262924 or by visiting www.permarock.com.

SG Systems

Sentinel balustrades tailored to meet your needs

SG System Products tailored the Sentinel balustrade system to provide the balustrade for the internal stair and the external steps and ramp for a primary school in Surrey.

The access balustrade used balusters in satin polished stainless steel grade 316, with blue Stargard warm to the touch handrail, and infill panels of galvanized steel mesh. This resulted in an attractive, functional yet economic design.

The staircase balustrade was also required to have blue upper and lower handrail, therefore the Sentinel system was powder coated blue, but the brackets left as satin polished stainless steel. Infill panels were clear toughened glass and the landing panels were made to have the top edge of the glass higher than the handrail for additional safety.
